Perth now has purpose-built sound stages. Perth Film Studios, at 390 Marshall Road in Whiteman, reached practical completion in January 2026, and Ausfilm lists it among Australia's sound stages for local and international productions.
What the studios offer
According to the WA Government and the Ausfilm listing, the studios have:
- four sound stages totalling 90,000 sq ft: two of 20,000 sq ft and two of 25,000 sq ft
- a 23,200 m² backlot, which the WA Government describes as the largest in the southern hemisphere
- workshops, production offices, and hair, makeup and costume facilities
- 336 parking bays and high-speed internet
The WA Government has invested almost $300 million: $233.5 million in construction and a further $57 million for management and operations over the first ten years. Ausfilm puts the studios about 30 minutes from the Perth CBD and 15 minutes from the airport.
The first production: Two Birds
The first production on the lot is Two Birds, a six-part Stan series starring Judy Davis, Sheridan Smith and Stephen Peacocke, filming at the studios and on location in Kalgoorlie. The WA Government expects it to employ 100 Western Australian cast and crew and bring $17 million into the WA economy. Its costume designer is Lisa Galea Gunning.

The studios give a production costume rooms on site. What a wardrobe department still has to bring in is the garments, the racks and the care. Champagne Charlie's Vintage Emporium is at 17/19 Masonry Road, Malaga, a short drive from the studios.
